GENERAL INAUGURAL EVACUATION TIPS

In the event that an evacuation is required during the inaugural festivities:

  • Participants should be prepared to walk or use public transportation. Metrorail will be operating at full service unless you're told otherwise by authorities.
  • Participants should listen for messages indicating which direction to proceed.
  • Jumbo-trons stationed throughout the Mall will be used to provide both visual and verbal messages to the public.
  • A speaker system placed along the parade route will be used to provide direction and guidance. The speaker system can be heard on the Mall.
  • The District has also pre-identified patron Collection Centers that will be staffed with volunteers to provide additional information (map, tour bus/patron unification information, etc.).
  • Collection Centers are accessible by foot and will provide temporary shelter for patrons until they are reunited with family/group, tour bus or additional assistance.
  • Last, but most important, participants should walk, not run! This will ensure a safe evacuation for all.
